Yes, this pair of Kali Audio IN-5 v2 active speakers is not the equipment borrowed from U-Audio to write the review, but the reference equipment bought by the editorial team for close listening. During the interview with Yisheng’s studio, recording engineer Xu Yusheng let me listen to his newly purchased IN-5 v2, and once I heard it, I was poisoned.
Didn’t U-Audio already have Wilson Audio Alexia 2 and Dynaudio Contour 60? The answer is that the price is different, the size is different, and the usage is also different. I was originally looking for active speakers for quality near-field listening, and they are professional studio versions, and I like many brands and styles, but due to budget, I never made up my mind until the Kali LP-6 appeared, and the sound performance is superb and the price is very good value, so I almost bought it, but I almost bought it, but the editor-in-chief held back a bit and planned to listen to the slightly more expensive IN-5 v2 before making a decision, and I wanted to buy it after listening to just one song in the ArtSaint studio. What? You’re looking for 30,000 yen? I’m sorry I didn’t buy it, so I paid for it and received it.
Out of stock, you have to grab it fast!
Another reason for me to buy immediately is the shortage of stock. The agent said that this batch of goods is almost sold out, but the original Kali factory has not replied the delivery date of the new order, I am afraid it is due to the epidemic, port congestion and lack of chips.
The more expensive IN-5 v2 is obviously better than the LP-6, right? I must say that LP-6 and IN-5 v2 are both very good near-field monitor speakers, and their frequency response and dynamic range are almost the same. If you are on a tight budget, LP-6 is already very good, but I like IN-5 v2 mainly because of the coaxial monoblock three-way design, and IN-5 v2’s sound field depiction and sense of positioning are obviously more precise, and it is easy to identify the subtleties of the recording.
Kali describes it as “hyper-realistic”, meaning that it reproduces the placement of all the instruments in the recording to show a lifelike sound field, even if the recording is all digital, the producer can still place the sound through the mix. The sound is as real as “seeing” the sound. If you have the opportunity to listen to the IN-5 v2 “up close”, you will understand what I mean by “as if the instrument is within reach”.
In fact, the LP-6 also has a specific and subtle sound field positioning, but the IN-5 v2 uses a coaxial unit, which is technically superior to the LP-6. Although the LP-6 is also a point source design, and the tweeter has an oscillator for better integration of the upper midrange and treble, there is still a slight distance between the tweeter and the bass/midrange unit, while the IN-5 v2 with its coaxial design has the tweeter and midrange in the same position. Theoretically, this is the best point source design, so the 3D sound field and sense of positioning are more precise.
What does more accurate mean? How much more accurate is it? Sorry, there is no way to quantify it. If you listen to the LP-6 alone, you will feel that the LP-6 is accurate even at close monitoring distance, but that’s the way it is with audio equipment.
Boundary EQs are based on measurements taken at Kali Audio’s The Village recording studio in Los Angeles, which has a history of over 60 years and has seen the glory days of American pop and rock music, from Rolling Stone, B.B. King and Bob Dylan to the younger generation of From Rolling Stone, B.B. King and Bob Dylan to the younger generation of Coldplay, Lady Gaga, John Mayer and more, all have come to The Village to record. If you like these artists, you can listen to them on the IN-5 v2 and imagine being at The Village.
In addition to the Boundary EQs that can be adjusted for digital equalization compensation, the IN-5 v2 itself is designed to be easy to set up, as the bass reflex opening is in front, so even if it’s set up against the wall, it won’t produce low-frequency standing wave interference, and the large opening reduces airflow noise. As I said when I wrote about the LP-6, Kali Audio has an acoustic reason for every design, and the same is true for the IN-5 v2.
