What is the difference between Melco’s new S10 audio-grade network switch and the previous S100? It looks identical on the outside, but the chassis has been changed from one to two. The original switchable power supply has been replaced with a high quality linear power supply, making it a two-box power supply design, which makes it even more audiophile-friendly.
The S10’s power supply is housed in the same all-aluminum alloy cabinet as the main unit, with an extremely strong steel chassis that not only provides excellent shielding, but also has a strong structure that effectively suppresses cabinet resonance. The power supply is audio-grade, with a custom-made, high-quality toroidal transformer and audio-grade capacitors to ensure minimal noise.
The S10 also provides a 10-port network interface, including eight RJ45 ports and two SFP fiber ports. Of the eight RJ45 ports, four on the left have a 100Mbps speed and four on the right have a 1000Mbps speed to connect to devices with different traffic volumes to optimize throughput and smooth data transmission. The two SFP fiber ports on the right side can be connected to devices with the same SFP interface to isolate noise. In addition, the S10 is equipped with an internal 1.5MB buffer to cope with unstable data sources and ensure smooth listening.
