Taiko Audio Extreme Router: Precision Networking for the Discerning Listener
Taiko Audio, hailing from the Netherlands, was founded by Emile Bok, a computer specialist with over two decades of experience at leading IT academic institutions. 1 His expertise lies in servers, and as an audiophile himself, Bok established Taiko Audio to focus on producing top-tier music servers and network devices. 2 While Taiko Audio may not offer a vast product range, each item is meticulously crafted to the highest standards, exemplified by their Extreme Router.
The Extreme Router's circuitry is hermetically sealed within a 22 x 22 cm copper chassis. This enclosure is meticulously CNC-machined from a solid copper billet, effectively eliminating resonance and providing optimal shielding and isolation.
The Extreme Router features four RJ45 ports and a single SFP+ port. Among the RJ45 ports, one is designated as a WAN input for connecting to the internet, while the remaining three serve as LAN outputs for linking to other network devices. The SFP+ port also functions as an output, enabling a direct connection to Taiko Audio's Extreme Music Server or Extreme Switch via an SFP+ DAC cable.
In terms of power, the Extreme Router is powered by an external DC supply, accommodating voltages from 12V to 19V. Taiko Audio includes a standard switching power adapter for immediate use. However, users have the option to upgrade to a higher-performance power supply, such as Taiko Audio's own Extreme DC Power Distributor, to further enhance the Extreme Router's capabilities.
